Flags API by ISO country-name?

Postby SkyDiver on 05 Apr 2009 01:37

Hi,

I'm looking for an API (e.g. a URL) that will allow me to launch a country's info page (let's say Wikipedia page) by the country's 2-3 abbreviated letters.

For example: http://wikipedia/CountryPage?iso-alpha-3=USA (don't try the link - it just an example)

Anybody?

Thanks.

You can use CIA World Factbook:

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html

(Please note that it uses FIPS country codes, not ISO codes; they are different for most countries)

I don't know how you can address to Wikipedia currently, but you can create a tool for it. All you have to do is to organize a system of redirects, so that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:SkyDiver/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2/US would redirect to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States etc.

Too much of a hassle to me..
Eventually I manually created my own mapping table.

Thanks!
